Chapter 13
Kingpin
Eveâs absence cut a hole straight through my heart, and I couldnât wait hours for answers. I had to act. I made the call to Scar, the president of the mother chapter of the Asphalt Gods MC. We had our dealings in the shadows, running another club together in secrecy. I couldnât believe I got him on the first try. He said he was down in Alabama, making his way to Florida, but I couldnât care less about his itinerary. My world had narrowed down to one singular focus. Finding Eve.
âFuck our deals, son,â I said, my voice tight with barely contained rage. âI think your boys might have my olâ lady, and if thatâs the case, Iâm ready to bring my whole damn storm down on the Gods, all of yâall.â
There was a pause on the other end, and then Scarâs voice came through, cool and measured. âIâll look into it,â he offered, but it wasnât enough. Not nearly.
âLook into it?â I echoed, suspicion sharpening my tone. âShove it up your ass, Scar. You canât even keep your clubs in line.â
His response was immediate, a low growl. âThose are fighting words, Kingpin.â
I was past caring about diplomacy or the fragile alliances between our clubs. âThen come on down here to Nashville. Put up or shut up, little boy.â It was a challenge, pure and simple.
To my surprise, Scar took me up on it. He showed up at Royal Road the very next day with his Tucson crew, a bold move considering the bad blood between our clubs. Especially after the Arkansas Gods ambushed and killed some of my brothers a few years back on Halloween. I told Gunn to let the fuckers through the gates. The tension was unmistakable as they roared in, Scar on a fucking Indian, kicking up dust. An ominous cloud threatened to burst at any moment.
With all the visiting Royal Bastards still around, we didnât have to worry about the dozen Gods with Scar. The boy was young, inherited the deal with me from the General, an evil SOB, his late father. Iâd never met this biker in person, but I didnât see a single Scar on him. He was a bit too put together for my liking, but he ran an empire bigger than mine. It was clear in his stance and ease that he was in charge of his and wasnât afraid of mine. I could respect that.
But soon as the boy opened his mouth, spoke the word, mentioned the Asphalt Gods MC, my brothers spit. We hated the Gods. Regardless, Scar wanted to talk, just the two of us. His VP, a fucking woman to beat all, started to kick up a fuss, but a sharp look from Scar shut her down fast. We made our way to my office. Pagan and Scarâs VP, who was almost as big as him with tits, stood guard, their arms crossed, an uneasy silence settling between them.
Once the door was shut, I laid it all out for him.
